How to Prepare Your Household Water for the Holidays
Whether you're staying home or traveling, there are a few things you can do to prepare your water softener and water for the holidays.
First, get your water tested.
Many contaminants are odorless and colorless, so the only way to be sure your water is clean and safe is to get it tested. With Culligan, quality water is one call away.
Taste is another reason to get your water tested. You want your guests to have the best tasting water. So why not treat them to Culligan water?
Second, change the settings on your water softener.
Hosting more people than usual may require your water softener to do some extra work.
With overnight guests, you may find yourself washing more linens or towels. Or there might be longer, hotter showers being taken. And a five minute shower can use anywhere between 25-50 gallons of water.
It's a good idea to make sure your water softener is on the right setting and has enough salt to make it through the holiday season.
If you have a Culligan water softener and need to change the settings, your product manual can be found here.
Third, load up on softener salt.
Getting through the winter months is easier when salt deliveries are already set in place. Did you know your local Culligan water expert can bring softener salt right to your door?
Fourth, know the difference between softener salt and sidewalk salt.
No, they're not the same. And yes, sidewalk salt can damage your water softener.
Sidewalk salt is filled with minerals that could be harmful to your water softener. On the other hand, softener salt is specifically purified to prevent damage while still providing the minerals needed to keep your system running properly.
Finally, store extra water, for backup purposes.
It's always smart to have a backup plan. Having extra water on hand is a safe practice in case the power goes out. Many of our Culligan dealers carry a variety of bottled water to accommodate your taste preferences and space. Check with your Culligan dealer to see what they have available.
With your home's water and water softener taken care of, you can spend more time enjoying with friends and family.
